I Have This Little Problem...

I can't stop thinking of idea bigger than my available resources would allow me to do. It doesn't always stop me. I have developed some strong abilities in the area of convincing people to work with me toward some creative goal, giving them motivation and incentive to do it. So yesterday at work, when I thought of a video idea that would take about 100+ people, I got over my initial thoughts about how it's ludicrous to even try something like that rather quickly. With CraigsList, getting 100+ volunteers for a music video actually is in the realm of possibility. And since it's a music video about The Pittsburgh Steelers, it's even more possible.

From a motivational standpoint, I have to consider what would make people volunteer and actually show up for something like this. People that are fans don't show up just out of the goodness of their hearts, and that's fine -- that's how a free system should work. Their time is worth something to them, so they have to feel that they're being compensated in some fashion. I just have to figure out what the compensation that's offered needs to be in order to get the most amount of people. For the average Steeler fan, this might be kind of easy. Here's some ideas:

1. Tell them this video is going to be released Nationally (YouTube, but you don't have to mention that part up front...).

2. Raffle off the Steeler Season Tickets I have for the Baltimore Ravens game on December 27th. I lose about $450 on this one. I can't make the game, but they'll be easy to sell for a healthy profit.

3. Talk to the people at Heinz Field and ask for permission to use the stadium in the video. It would be great if the crowd of people could end up there. This would incentivize a lot of people to get involved.

4. Offer Pizza and Pop for free lunch as well as a free copy of the Music CD for the song "This Is Steeler Country."

Those are some of the ideas I've come up with. The main thing we'll end up doing is recruiting family and friends to be a part of this. If the four principals Me, Walt, Nate and Kevin all were responsible for gathering 20-25 people, we'd have our crowd.

The plan right now is to shoot the October the 10th, a Saturday. I think we could knock out all footage except for the end footage on that day in about 6 hrs time. That's asking a lot, but I think it's do-able with the right incentive.

On a completely extra-cirricular note: Today is an old friend's brithday -- the former Rebecca Brennan. I wish I could track her down to at least send an e-mail that says "Happy Birthday." It's pretty impressive that I remember it all these years later and would like a **little** credit.
